Clear Quartz is arguably the most important crystal in crystal healing. Many crystal healers use quartz points as wands to transmit energy, generators to enhance energy, or control crystals, the healer's closest ally in some schools of healing, directing the healing session almost like a conductor with a baton. Quartz (silica) is the main component of glass, and can symbolise clarity. It is used in computer chips, and as such transmits knowledge. The crystals have no centre of symmetry, which creates a polarity (piezoelectricity); slices taken at appropriate thicknesses and orientation are used for controlling frequencies in radio components and watches. Clear quartz clears and focuses the mind, to aid both decision-making and meditation. It enhances and strengthens the healing properties of other crystals, and directs and amplifies healing energy to the area in which it is needed. It creates a strong connection with the Divine, and can clear the aura, as well as stimulating growth on a cellular level. A quartz cluster can be used to cleanse and recharge other crystals after use. There are many varieties of crystal shapes, each with its own use and symbolic meaning. Clear quartz should not be used directly in the treatment of cancer or fibroids, as it may stimulate growth of unhealthy cells.

Faden Quartz - Faden is German for fibre, which refers to the white string or yarn-like inclusion that runs down the centre of the crystal, usually for its entire length. The crystals have a tabular habit, meaning they are flat. Faden Quartz is often used to form a connection between two people, such as healer and client, and in some cases it is also used to strengthen the 'silver cord' that connects the astral self to the physical self while exploring astral travel. It can be used to increase spiritual connection, by holding near the Crown (termination on), and also displays the interesting ability of surrounding the body with light that doesn't actually flow through the body, offering protection that resembles a close-fitting suit of armour.

Quartz - Lazulite - Quartz containing Lazulite exhibits the qualities of lazulite amplified by the quartz. This crystal is more for spiritual development than physical healing. It holds a sense of the sea and of detachment, and can be used for meditation and astral travel. It clears all Chakras, washing through them like water, and lights up and opens the Third Eye, and is therefore extremely useful in psychic development. It also opens the Throat Chakra and stimulates the Bindu Visarga, helping us to communicate with our Guides. If used to treat energy blockages, it can be held below the blockage. It will draw energy down through the Crown and dissolve the blockage, before working on the Chakras below it. It balances male/female energy. Lazulite Quartz possesses energies of both Krishna, which is sensual and playful, and the Hierophant, which is stern and judgmental. These energies may seem at odds with one another, but will appear separately, depending on how one works with the crystal, and can also help balance the two.

Quartz - Elestial - Elestial Quartz is balancing and comforting. It is useful in removing blockages and fear, helps to overcome emotional burdens and opens us to make necessary changes in our lives, thereby being a transitional stone. It is also purported to be useful in accessing and understanding past lives, and in some systems is believed that its' presence in an area can heal the entire surrounding community.

Quartz - Tibetan - Tibetan Quartz is of stunning clarity and usually contains black inclusions which are most likely carbon. The crystals often exhibit rainbows and are frequently double-terminated. It is purported to contain the wisdom and esoteric knowledge of ancient Tibet. In addition to the qualities of normal clear quartz, Tibetan Quartz has a powerful, focused and detached linear energy, making it excellent for use as a control crystal or wand. However, it is recommended that you have experience with crystal healing before using them in this way, because of the strength of the crystals. Oddly, in spite of this, the energy is feminine, and although there is a Buddha connection, there is also a connection with the Trinity. The double terminated variety seems to distribute energy at the Crown and the Root (Base) Chakras, without touching the Chakras in between.

Quartz - Rutilated - Fine strands of rutile (titanium ore) sometimes form inside clear or smoky quartz. The tensile strength of the titanium gives an air of authority combined with power and clear quartz bestows clarity. It engenders new hope and has an anti-depressive effect, as it allows us to feel more in control of our lives.

Quartz - Starburst - Milky Quartz Crystals with tiny inclusions resembling 5-pointed stars. The Star is symbolic of hope, and to "reach for the stars" is to follow your hopes, dreams, and ambitions to their greatest height. This unusual crystal definitely does just that. It lifts the spirits, engenders hope, and encourages drive and ambition. It strengthens the Solar Plexus and makes the Heart feel lighter, as well as aligning the other Chakras. In meditation, it is as though tiny bursts of light (or fireworks) are going off all around and through the body, creating inner movement and realignment, not focused, but still very pleasant. Starburst Quartz aids spiritual and psychic development, and can also be used to access the energy of the Wise Woman or Crone.

Smoky Quartz is very grounding and protective. It is an excellent pain killer, especially for back problems, as it also strengthens the spine. It can dampen electromagnetic stress, and block geopathic stress, and acts as a mild antidepressant. Smoky quartz is useful for letting go of old unhealthy attachments, people, places and situations, and helpful for the end of a relationship or in cases of bereavement.

Quartz - Tourmilated - A rare combination of tourmaline and quartz. Tourmilated quartz can range from transparent with black areas to almost completely black, depending on how much tourmaline it contains. Very detoxifying. Can help us to make changes in our lives that were previously thought impossible. Stimulates achievement and is a very protective stone.

Quartz is used as a tool for therapy and acts as an excellent channeller for healing. Believed to be good for the brain and soul by dispelling negativity.
