Blue Agate Geode Bookends

Agate is usually forged in the intense heat and movement of metamorphic and volcanic rock. The bands of colour are created by continually deposited layers of silica-rich matter. This requires intense heat, and it is the peculiarities of temperature during creation that produces the different textures found in this blue agate geode. Periods of great heat force the crystals together, forming the luxuriantly smooth Prussian blue part of this geode. Cooler temperatures later have allowed the complex crystals to grow in the glittering central cavity.
