Origin of Name & Mythology: Allegedly named in 1546 by Georgius Agricola (Georg Bauer) from Arabic "talq", pure, probably alluding to the color of its powder.
This beautiful, slightly luminous, soft green mineral is gentle, yet at the same time surprisingly potent. When first held, the fingers tingle, but after a period of time it is difficult to feel the stone as a separate entity – it becomes more like an extension of the user. When it is held with the leaves horizontal to the body, there is a sense of spreading, as if areas within the body/mind that are holding tension begin to soften and expand, flowing outwards as inexorably as lava. Held with the leaves vertical, it aligns and connects the chakras, stimulating flow of energy. With its green colouration, the expectation is for it to go to work directly on the Heart and Upper Heart Chakras, but in fact it first works on the two chakras below (Solar Plexus and Sacral), and the two above (Throat and Third Eye) first. It begins by releasing old, held energy (such as anger originating in childhood) from the Solar Plexus, and works its way through the other chakras, clearing, cleansing, balancing and aligning, so they are toned and ready to support the Heart, as well as supporting flow from the Heart to the adjoining chakras. Only when all is ready, can it finally focus its attention on the Heart. After it has done its work, green talc brings a profound sense of inner peace, calm and stillness, so if using it in meditation, the meditative state is deepened. Otherwise it can return the user to a healthy sleep pattern. With regard to the physical body, talc can support cell function and metabolism, and can be used to cleanse the filter organs such as liver, pancreas, kidneys and spleen (but for some reason does not appear to affect the gall bladder).
