This phylloceras ammonite fossil is around 180 million years old, from the Lower Jurassic Period. It was excavated many years ago from the classic Posidonia Shale Deposit at Holzmaden in Wurttenburg, Germany. This ammonite exhibits the attractive golden colour of specimens from this locality, due to pyritisation of the shell imprint.
An ammonite fossil makes a striking ornament and is a wonderful way to bring natural history into your home. Despite its vast age, the simple beauty of this ammonite shines through, a perfect gift from a lost era.
Fossil plaques are also a great way to interest children in history and make wonderful gifts for lovers of natural history everywhere.
