Knightia fish were a graceful, herring-like fish that lived sixty million years ago, the fossils of which are now found in the deposits of the Fossil Syncline Lake in Wyoming, USA. The detail you can see here is particular to the Green River Formation area where two layers of very fine-grained lime mud has preserved not only the shape of the fish, but also the fine detail of scales, bones and teeth which are clearly visible.
