A wonderfully detailed Knightia Fish Fossil Plate. Knightia fish were a graceful, herring-like fish that lived sixty million years ago, the fossils of which are now found in the deposits of the Fossil Syncline Lake in Wyoming, USA. The detail you can see here is particular to the Green River Formation area where two layers of very fine-grained lime mud has preserved not only the shape of the fish, but also the fine detail of scales, bones and teeth which are clearly visible. This makes these Knightia fish fossils a great way to introduce children to the wonder of natural history.

With their smooth shapes and natural stone, these Knightia fossils are a subtle addition to your home and make a brilliant gift.

This fossil fish has not been enhanced in any way; just the covering layer of limestone has been carefully removed to present a beautiful fossil, showing the relief of the bones, fins and scales.

The fish is 15.5cms long.
