Origin of Name & Mythology: Named in honour of the French mineralogist and geologist, Déodat Gratet de Dolomieu (1750-1801), who wrote numerous books on geology, notably about the Alps and Pyrenees. He discovered a specimen of what would eventually be called dolomite during his participation in Napoleon Bonaparte's expedition into Egypt in 1798.
Dolomite is basically calcite with the added zing of magnesium. Magnesium is essential to all cells and 300 enzymes, and it’s involved in more than 600 reactions in the human body, so we can speculate that this works right down to a cellular level.
In therapeutic terms, dolomite enhances the cleansing action of calcite while it gives the entire body a thorough tune-up and rebalance, clearing blockages as it goes. Mentally, it can encourage spontaneous ideas and spark a change of direction.
Dolomite is quite powerful and can be uncomfortable to work with, but it’s worth persevering. However, only do so if things are ready to shift – in many cases, a more subtle approach is recommended.
Each colour has its own additional properties:-
White dolomite is powerful, works evenly throughout, and can be somewhat ungrounding.
Pink dolomite is much gentler and more soothing.
Recently discovered blue dolomite clears stuck energy from the Throat and Third Eye, and enhances communication on all levels, especially communication of a higher nature. I would normally associate its ethereal blue colour with calm energy and mind, but it’s not necessarily as soothing as its colour would suggest. It’s more of a wakeup call for communication, sharing your truth, and constructing new pathways with your guides and other dimensions. Blue dolomite can take you on a journey if you’re ready to travel. "
