Tanzanite, the mauve variety of the mineral Zoisite, is found in the famous Merelani Hills area of Tanzania. Occasionally, both the yellow brown Zoisite and mauve Tanzanite are exhibited in the same crystal - this is just such an example. These are known as 'bi-colour' Tanzanite crystals.
All individual Tanzanite crystals are highly prized by mineral collectors and crystal healers. They are beautiful, but rare and expensive.
This crystal is a high quality natural specimen, not heat-treated to produce the mauve colour, as most commercial Tanzanite tends to be. (Beware of any Tanzanite which seems too cheap !)
