Origin: India, Pakistan
Mineral Species: Natrolite
Mineral Group: Silicates
Chemical Formula: Na2AlSi3O10·2H2O
Hardness: 5-5.5
Crystal System: Orthorhombic
Colour: Usually white, off-white
Typical Appearance: Natrolite forms as an igneous mineral in basalt cavities, and in veins in granite, gneiss, and other rocks. Crystals may be radiating masses of acicular crystals, compact masses, or long, slender crystals with vertical striation that can grow up to a metre in length. It is commonly associated with other zeolite minerals, as well as apophyllite and quartz, and is both piezo- and pyroelectric.
Birthstone: Secondary birthstone for Cancer, Pisces and Scorpio
Chakra Alignment: Crown
Element: Spirit
Origin of Name & Mythology: Named in 1803 by Martin H. Klaproth from the Greek natron, "soda," in allusion to its sodium content and lithos, "stone."
Natrolite is probably the most powerful zeolite for both purifying and stimulating. It fizzes away like an effervescent cleanser, thoroughly clearing the body’s energy field, inside and out.
At the same time, it is very Heart-centred. This is very helpful, clearing away old sadness and hurt, and reawakening the Heart to love. However, the process is rapid and intense, so can sometimes be very uncomfortable, especially when issues are old and deep-seated, and need time to untangle and release more slowly. The physical effect is similar, as it is stimulating enough to wake up both mind and body but can also increase heart rate. In both cases, the end result makes it worth persevering through the discomfort, but don’t force it if it’s too much.
Natrolite can leave the user open to receive healing. It is both piezo- and pyroelectric, which encourages transmission of energy.
